Students performing the Elephant Toothpaste demo at BES Denise, Alyssa, Amy, Alex, Zach, Carl

On October 8th, 2014, 6 Youngker High School SNHS members made the short trek over the Buckeye Elementary school to teach Mr. Thomas Gibson’s 7th grade about science.  The SNHS members ran an elephant toothpaste demo for the 7th graders, explaining how the hydrogen peroxide breaks down faster in the presence of yeast.  The high school students then lead the 7th graders in a simple chemical experiment to determine which type of acidic solution cleans pennies better.  They explained the concepts to the students as the 7th graders cleaned pennies in orange juice, lemon juice, and vinegar.

The SNHS students had a great time participating in their community outreach.  Student summaries of their experiences will follow soon.
